4 Design For The People 2017-2018 Today Nordlux is a fast-growing and a market leading company, working closely together with a number of recognized Danish designers. We have our own production facilities in China, two distinctive brands, and an export share of 60 percent of revenue. Who would have thought it would go like this, back then in 1977, when the founder of Nordlux and then director Mr. Svend Erik Poulsen stood in his basement in Gistrup near Aalborg and made his first prototype – the quadratic Model 2626? In 1988 Mr. Svend Erik Poulsen sold Nordlux to Mr. Jørgen Havemann, who owned it until the current director, Mr. Peter Terkelsen, took over in 2008. Each of the 3 directors have put their own stamp on the company, however always based on one clear vision; to create quality lighting at prices everyone can afford. We are proud to announce that Nordlux has won three iF Awards and four prestigious Red Dot Design Awards 2017 in the Product Design category. The award-winning products include Strap 36 in black, designed by Bjørn + Balle, Front 36 in black, designed by HolmbäckNordentoft, Artist 40 in copper and Dee glass, both designed by Bønnelycke mdd. At Nordlux we have long worked with a focus on innovative and seductive design created by talented Danish designers. Good design, a reasonable price point and the functionality suited for homes where life is lived are all important factors, reflected in Nordlux’s products, and we are honoured that this is now rewarded with as many as four Red Dot Design Awards. “By changing our whole visual concept, with Design For The People we reached a large and very design-conscious audience – but still at a price which most can afford. “That we have been rewarded with as many as three iF Awards and four Red Dot Design Awards is a stellar testament to our ability to compete on an international level,” says Peter Terkelsen. The pendant is suspended from a leather strap, and you have a choice between a strap in either black or a natural colour. In this way you determine the look of your light fixture. 24 Indoor Series | Design For The People 2017-2018 Metal, glass and wood comprise the perfect trinity when one is aiming for a distinctively Nordic design expression. With an intuitive feel for the coveted soft light and a functional design idiom, the Italian designer Antonia Sena from the Danish studio Seidenfaden Design has created the Karma light series, which consists of a pendant light and a wall light. 38 Pendants | Design For The People 2017-2018 T he relationship between Nordic and Japanese design is a close one. Both schools display an affection for simplicity of expression and honest materials. In giving shape to the Belly pendant, Bønnelycke mdd drew inspiration from the traditional, Japanese tea pot. If you look closely, you will see clear references to the cast iron stove or the archetypal sleigh bell. With its dominantly artisanal look, Belly combines weightlessness of shape with lightness of suspension.

The Jubilee pendants are a luminous testament to this claim. Bønnelycke mdd took an archetypal shape in the form of a classic pendant and gave it an innovative twist. BATH LIGHT IP means International Protection and is used in connection with the material’s protection class. IP is stated with 2 numbers (e.g. IP20) to say how safe the material is in connection with water penetration and the penetration of dust and solid objects. Materials are divided into protection classes that state – partly the protection of the material itself against penetration of foreign objects and water – and partly the protection of people who touch dangerous parts. The first number always states the degree of protection against foreign objects penetrating the material, but at the same time it states a certain smallest degree of protection of people who touch dangerous parts. The second number states the degree of protection from water penetrating the material.

Based on the A format, Bønnelycke mdd developed the Fold light, which is incredibly well defined and distinct in terms of shape. Fold owes its unique character to a meticulous choice of materials: copper, brass, and white, black and galvanized steel. Materials that patinate beautifully over time and enter into harmonious dialogue with their surroundings.

OUTDOOR WALL LIGHT References to both lunar and solar eclipses, or perhaps endless, starry nights, are obvious when light streams from the Hunt wall light. Designers Bjørn + Balle pair the square and the circle, playing with the interaction of light and shadow. Cast in metal, the light consists of a rectangular wall plate and a circular dome in black, white, and aluminium. From the meeting between the two geometric shapes, the light escapes and settles like a soft aura of the square plate. The dome is perforated, and allows dots of lights to be released - resulting in a bright, starry sky.
